I believe in building a stronger economy in a fairer society. We are committed to creating economic opportunities for all, and to fighting against economic inequality and injustice.
Balancing the Power of the State
In day-to-day casework related to social housing, I've seen laws and policies used oppressively.
At the very least, less resourceful hard-working families are frustrated in overcoming endless bureaucracy. I want to fix the problems by going to the of roots law-making – that is our Parliament. Politicians may not set out to cause mischief in law-making. But the failure to go beyond efforts to understand, scrutinise and deliberate have serious repercussions and often to individuals who may be less resourceful.

In my pro-bono legal casework and alongside the Liberal Democrats we scrutinise misuse of Community Protection Notices. Yes, we should banish boy racers. But I have seen Islington Council used draconian investigatory powers against street traders, and I have seen Essex Council issue CPNs forcing their way into elderly's homes to take away bird food and televisions and haul them to Court for sentencing.
These elderly were just frighten by the overuse of force and it's impossible to comprehend the complicated legal procedures to appeal these draconian powers which were unfairly summoned in the first place.
